Dennis Whalen is an award-winning fine Art artist based on the Central coast of NSW Australia. Specialising in still life and botanical painting.Dennis works primarily in oils using the traditional Flemish technique- a layered method that gives his work it's luminous depth and timeless quality.
Born in the United States,Dennis travelled widely before settling in Australia in the 1970s.His artistic journey has taken him across cultures, including three years of study in Japan, where he developed a lasting appreciation for Asian aesthetics,an influence that often finds its way into his compositions through subtle symbolism and serene balance.
Dennis also studied under renowned American-Russian still life artist Alexei Antanov,further refining his mastery of light form and texture.His talent was recognised early- at age 13,he won his first art competition,with his award winning painting displayed in the Pentagon.
Since then,Dennis's work has earned numerous awards ,including recognition in Australian Artist Magazine,with an art demonstration and First Prize in Still Life from the same publication (2007). His art has been featured in International Artist Magazine, Australian Artist Magazine,World Wide Art Books,and several European publications.
Dennis is a member of the International Guild of Realism, the Botanical art society of Australia,the Central Coast Art society ,the Central Coast Watercolour Society and the Ku-Ring-Gai Art Society
His paintings are held in private collections across Australia,the USA,Britain,Germany,Japan and Thailand.Through his art,Dennis seeks to transform everyday objects into moments of beauty and reflection,inviting viewers to pause,feel,and rediscover joy in the familiar.
